Rare Venini Poliedri Chandelier by Venini, Italy, c.1960s
An exceptional and highly important Venetian glass chandelier, originally commissioned for the grand entry foyer of a Venetian hotel in the mid-1960s. The piece remained in situ for over two decades before being relocated to a private villa in Rome in the 1980s.
Following the sale of the villa in 2010, the chandelier was removed and placed into storage, where it remained untouched until its rediscovery in 2020.
Although restoration and reinstallation were initially planned, these were ultimately postponed, the piece lay dormant state until its recent acquisition.
Composed of large-scale poliedri glass elements—an iconic form designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini—the chandelier is defined by its commanding, sculptural silhouette. The form expands outward into a monumental, tiered volume, tapering elegantly toward the crown while maintaining a broad, generous lower body. This creates a striking architectural presence, almost dome-like in proportion, with a sense of both weight and suspension.
Each faceted glass element is individually suspended, forming a dense, interlocking skin that reads as both structured and fluid. The repetition of the geometric poliedri modules creates a rhythmic, almost cellular composition, allowing light to refract and diffuse through multiple layers. The interplay between clear and soft blush tones introduces depth and warmth, shifting subtly depending on the viewing angle and illumination.
From a distance, the chandelier presents as a unified, glowing mass; up close, it reveals an extraordinary level of detail and craftsmanship—each element catching and scattering light in a way that produces a soft, atmospheric luminosity rather than direct glare. The overall effect is immersive, with the chandelier functioning as both a lighting piece and a sculptural installation.
This example has undergone a complete and meticulous restoration by eModerno. The original frame has been refinished in a silver powder-coated finish, and the piece has been fully rewired to Australian standards.
A truly monumental and rare statement piece, offering both significant scale and refined materiality—well suited to interiors seeking a focal point of architectural and collectible importance.
