Octagonal Dining Table by Sandro Petti for Maison Jansen, France, 1970s
An extraordinary piece of 1970s design by avant-garde architect Sandro Petti, created for Maison Jansen. From an octagonal brass and chrome base, two monumental columns rise to support an imposing octagonal top. Concealed lighting within the base casts a subtle glow up the two lucite pillars that hold the top in place, giving the impression that the mirrored table top is floating.
At the centre, a versatile opening offers multiple possibilities: it may be used as a planter, champagne cooler, or an array of orders in ice, decorated at each end with a crown of two pyramidsl. This ingenious feature enhances both the sculptural presence and functional adaptability of the design.
Petti, known for his collaborations with artists and designers such as Romeo Rega and Enrico Manera, was recognised at the 1977 Salone del Mobile, with his work featured in Casa Vogue. This table is a statement of his bold vision, where architecture, art, and design converge.
The piece being a vintage piece although in good condition does show signs of wear consitent with the age of the piece. Â The lamp at the base has been completely rewired for Australian Standards.
