Trikalias Wall Light by Ernesto Gismondi for Artemide
Italy, c. 1970s
A sculptural and highly distinctive wall light designed by Ernesto Gismondi for Artemide, exemplifying the experimental elegance of Italian design in the late modernist period.
The Trikalias features a rhythmic composition of softly rounded, opaline glass forms arranged in a vertical, modular sequence. Each element is crowned with a polished chrome dome, creating a striking contrast between the cool translucency of the glass and the reflective metal detailing. When illuminated, the piece emits a gentle, diffused glow while the chrome caps subtly mirror the surrounding space, adding depth and visual movement.
The staggered configuration allows the light to function both as illumination and as a sculptural wall installation, making it particularly well suited to hallways, stairwells, or feature walls in design-led interiors.
Produced by Artemide—renowned for its innovation and technical excellence—this work reflects Gismondi’s forward-thinking approach to form, modularity, and light as an architectural element.
