Pair of Mid-Century Italian Wall Sconces by Flavio Poli, Italy, c.1960s
An exceptional pair of mid-century Italian wall sconces designed by the renowned designer Flavio Poli, celebrated for his pioneering work with Murano glass. Poli was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) in 1954 and received numerous accolades throughout his career for his innovative glass designs.
Each sconce features a sleek chrome frame supporting a beautifully proportioned thick circular Murano glass shade. The glass has a relatively flat profile and is finished in a refined smoked tone, allowing the light to diffuse softly while highlighting the depth and quality of the glass.
The minimal architectural structure of the chrome frame contrasts elegantly with the substantial glass element, creating a sophisticated and timeless lighting design typical of Italian modernism of the period.
The pair is in good vintage condition and has been fully rewired to Australian standards, ready for installation.
