Pair of Large Murano Glass Wall Lights by Albano Poli for Poliarte, Italy, 1960s
A striking and unusually large pair of handmade Murano glass wall lights designed by Albano Poli for Poliarte, Italy, circa 1960s.
Each sconce is composed of an architectural arrangement of elongated textured glass rods in Cristallo clear and warm amber, individually positioned at varying heights to create a dramatic, asymmetrical composition. The heavily textured glass has the characteristic artisanal quality of Poliarte production, beautifully refracting and diffusing the light when illuminated.
The staggered vertical elements give the pair a distinctly sculptural and Brutalist character, while the combination of clear and amber Murano glass introduces warmth and depth. Mounted to metal backplates, the concealed light sources illuminate the glass from within, accentuating its irregular handmade texture.
An impressive example of mid-century Italian decorative lighting, equally compelling illuminated or viewed as sculptural wall art.
