Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega
Murano Glass Chandelier
Italy, c. 1970
A striking Murano glass chandelier designed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega, composed of thick, textured U-shaped glass elements in clear crystal infused with rich verde tonality. Each glass component is mould-formed with an organic, ice-like surface, creating depth, movement, and a sculptural quality characteristic of Nason’s work during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The U-shaped glass panels are individually suspended from the frame and arranged in concentric circular tiers, producing a layered halo effect. When illuminated, the textured surfaces refract and diffuse light beautifully, with the green tones becoming more pronounced toward the lower edges of each element.
This chandelier reflects the bold, architectural direction of Italian lighting design of the period — materially substantial, rhythmically structured, and highly atmospheric.
Completely rewired to Australian standards.
Italy, circa 1970.
