Mid-Century Italian Murano Glass Flush Mount by Barovier – c.1960s–1970s
An exceptional mid-century Italian flush mount ceiling light attributed to Barovier, showcasing the exquisite artistry and craftsmanship of traditional Murano glassmaking.
This magnificent sculptural light features an elaborate arrangement of individually formed glass leaves, radiating outwards in a dramatic floral composition. Each leaf is beautifully detailed with delicate veining, irregular scalloped edges and a richly textured surface, capturing the organic beauty of nature.
The glass has a subtle champagne hue, with a fine granular texture that beautifully catches and refracts the light, creating a warm, luminous glow and an extraordinary interplay of light and shadow.
At the centre sits a generously proportioned, shallow bowl-shaped glass diffuser, featuring an intricate sunburst pattern that radiates from a delicate brass finial. The overlapping glass leaves surround the central bowl, creating depth, movement and an impressive architectural silhouette.
When illuminated, the layered glass elements come alive, revealing the remarkable detail and craftsmanship of each individual piece. The combination of delicate botanical forms and bold proportions is characteristic of the expressive, sculptural lighting produced in Murano during the mid-century period.
A spectacular statement piece, this flush mount is particularly suited to entrances, living rooms, dining areas or interiors where ceiling height is limited but a dramatic decorative feature is desired.
A beautiful example of Italian decorative lighting, combining the timeless elegance of Murano glass with the sculptural sophistication of mid-century design.
