Mid Century Italian Chandelier by Toni Zuccheri for Venini, c.1960s
A sculptural and highly distinctive composition, this chandelier is formed from thick, organically shaped Murano glass elements, each with a three-sided profile. The glass carries a beautifully irregular surface—subtly textured with vertical striations and natural undulations—allowing light to diffuse softly while retaining clarity and depth.
Each individual element is pierced through the centre with a slender rod, terminating in a nickel sphere, and mechanically fixed to the frame. This method of construction creates a strong architectural rhythm, while still preserving the fluid, almost molten character of the glass.
The chandelier is arranged across three cascading tiers, giving the piece a sense of weight and presence while maintaining balance and proportion. When illuminated, the layered formation produces a rich interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the sculptural quality from every angle.
An elegant and collectible example of mid-century Venetian lighting, reflecting Zuccheri’s refined approach to material and form.
