Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega
“C-Link” Murano Glass Chandelier
Italy, c. 1970
An iconic Murano glass chandelier designed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega, composed of thick, sculptural U-shaped (C-link) glass elements in clear crystal. Each glass link is individually mould-formed with a heavily textured, ice-like surface, creating a dense architectural volume when assembled.
The U-shaped glass components interlock and overlap around a central metal armature, forming a bold cubic silhouette that diffuses light through multiple layers of refracted glass. When illuminated, the chandelier produces a striking interplay of light and shadow, emphasising the depth and materiality of the glass — a hallmark of Nason’s work during his most experimental period with Mazzega.
This model exemplifies the radical, structural direction of late-1960s Italian lighting design, bridging brutalist form with refined Murano craftsmanship.
Completely rewired to Australian standards.
Italy, circa 1970.
