Mid-Century “Ice” Chandelier by Venini, Murano, c. 1960s
An exceptional mid-century Murano glass chandelier attributed to Venini, exemplifying the refined modernism and material innovation for which the Venetian house is internationally renowned.
Often referred to as an “Ice” chandelier, the piece is composed of thick, textured Murano glass elements arranged in layered tiers to create a sculptural cascade of light. Each individually cast prism features a deeply striated surface, producing a crystalline, frozen effect that refracts and diffuses illumination with remarkable depth.
The outer layers are executed in clear cristallo, while the interior introduces warm peach and soft violet tones, creating a subtle chromatic glow from within. When illuminated, the chandelier emits a richly atmospheric light — both architectural and intimate in presence.
The glass is suspended from its original brass frame, whose warm patina complements the glass tones and anchors the composition. The chandelier has been fully rewired to Australian standards, ensuring suitability for contemporary installation while preserving its original character.
