Rare Italian Murano "Medusa" Chandelier by Archimede Seguso, circa 1940s
An extraordinary and highly sculptural Murano glass chandelier attributed to Archimede Seguso, dating to the 1940s. Inspired by the graceful movement of a jellyfish, this rare design—often referred to as the "Medusa" chandelier—is a superb example of post-war Italian Art Deco transitioning into early Mid-Century Modern design.
The chandelier centres around a beautifully hand-blown, frosted conical Murano glass diffuser, delicately infused with fine pulegoso bubbles that create a soft, atmospheric glow when illuminated. Rising dramatically from the crown are an array of individually hand-formed clear Murano glass rods, each elegantly arched to evoke the flowing tentacles of a jellyfish, creating a striking sense of movement and lightness.
The composition is completed with finely patinated brass fittings, including a decorative brass collar, a hand-blown Murano glass sphere beneath the shade, and a solid brass finial. Suspended from a brass stem with a matching ceiling rose, the chandelier is both sculptural and refined, making it an exceptional statement piece for both period and contemporary interiors.
A rare and highly collectible example of Murano artistry, this chandelier perfectly embodies the innovative craftsmanship and organic forms for which Archimede Seguso became renowned.
Professionally rewired to Australian Standards and ready for installation. The overall suspension height can be adjusted to suit your project requirements.
