Italian Lacquered Credenza, c.1970s
A striking example of late 20th-century Italian design, this monumental four-door credenza embodies the confident geometry and architectural language of the post-modern period.
The façade is defined by deeply routed concentric lines that converge inward to form inverted pyramidal panels, creating a powerful optical effect. As light moves across the surface, the relief detailing produces shadow and depth — transforming what could be a flat plane into a sculptural composition. Each door is framed by stepped mouldings and finished with subtle cylindrical corner banding, reinforcing the piece’s rhythmic, architectural presence.
The entire carcass is wrapped in layered moulded framing, giving the credenza a sense of structure and permanence. The high-gloss lacquered finish in saturated turquoise adds a bold contemporary edge while remaining unmistakably Italian in its glamour and precision.
Substantial in scale and commanding in form, this piece works equally as a statement dining room credenza, media console, or entry feature. It is a sculptural object as much as it is storage — a celebration of geometry, craftsmanship, and late-century Italian design confidence.
