Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova ‘Saratoga’ Two-Seater Sofa

Iconic ‘Saratoga’ two-seater sofa designed by Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, Italy.

A striking example of Italian modernist design, the Saratoga is defined by its strong architectural geometry and low, monolithic form. The substantial rectilinear frame forms the back and broad armrests, contrasting beautifully with the generously proportioned upholstered seat and back cushions.

The body of this example has been professionally refinished in a high-gloss piano black, accentuating the sculptural lines and graphic quality of the design. The warm burnt-orange cushions remain in original vintage condition, displaying age and wear consistent with the history of the piece.

The juxtaposition of the glossy black structure with the soft, relaxed upholstery is characteristic of the Saratoga’s distinctive aesthetic—simultaneously architectural, functional and exceptionally comfortable.

A significant piece of post-war Italian design and a commanding addition to both contemporary and mid-century interiors.
