Mid-Century Pendant Model 551 by Oscar Torlasco for Lumi, c.1960s
An iconic example of Italian Space Age design, Model 551 was conceived by Oscar Torlasco for Lumi in the 1960s. The sculptural pendant is composed of two opposing hemispheres, joined by a refined central brass band that visually divides and defines the form.
The spherical body is punctuated with twenty individual light apertures, each fitted with chrome-capped elements that create a constellation-like effect when illuminated. The result is both atmospheric and highly functional — diffused ambient light combined with directional highlights that emphasise its futuristic geometry.
Constructed from white enamelled metal with a matching canopy and brass suspension stem, the piece embodies the experimental optimism of mid-century Italian lighting design.
The pendant will be completely rewired to Australian Standards.
