Corteccia Glass Chandelier
Toni Zuccheri for Venini, Murano, c. 1960s

This exceptional mid-century Murano glass pendant was designed by Toni Zuccheri for Venini in the 1960s and features the celebrated Corteccia glass technique. The name Corteccia—Italian for “bark”—refers to the deeply textured surface of the glass, evocative of tree bark or natural geological formations.
The pendant is composed of vertically arranged, hand-blown glass elements with heavily rippled, organic surfaces. Executed in clear Murano glass, the pieces refract and diffuse light dramatically, creating a rich interplay of highlights and shadow when illuminated. The irregular edges and pronounced texture emphasise the sculptural quality of the design while maintaining a strong architectural presence.
Toni Zuccheri’s work for Venini during this period is renowned for pushing the expressive limits of glass, drawing inspiration from nature while embracing bold modernist forms. This pendant exemplifies that approach, balancing raw materiality with refined craftsmanship.
A striking statement piece, ideal for entry halls, dining areas, or as a feature light in both mid-century and contemporary interiors.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. Minor surface wear, light marks, and natural variations in the glass are consistent with age and the hand-crafted Corteccia technique and do not detract from the overall presentation. Rewired to Australian Standards.
