Nuvolone Sofa by Rino Maturi, Italy

The Nuvolone sofa by Rino Maturi is an iconic expression of Italian modular design, defined by its soft, cloud-like volumes and exceptional emphasis on comfort. Characterised by generous proportions and deeply cushioned forms, the design embraces a relaxed, sculptural aesthetic that became emblematic of Italian interiors in the late 20th century.
Upholstered in its original striped fabric, the sofa presents subtle tonal variation that enhances the depth and curvature of each module. The low-slung profile and rounded edges give the piece a grounded, enveloping presence, while the modular construction allows for flexible configurations suited to both residential and commercial settings.
This example remains in original condition, with minor signs of wear consistent with age. The upholstery is in good overall condition, with some buttons missing to individual sections—typical of modular upholstered pieces of this period and not detracting from the sofa’s visual impact or comfort.
A highly recognisable and tactile design that reflects the experimental spirit and innovation of Italian furniture design.
