Pair of Italian Space Age Chairs, c. 1970s
This striking pair of Italian chairs dates to the 1970s and exemplifies the bold experimentation of the Space Age / early Post-Modern movement. Exceptionally comfortable as well as visually distinctive, each chair is upholstered in a soft white fabric that contrasts beautifully with the dark timber frame.
The sculptural timber structure wraps around the rear of each chair, creating a strong architectural silhouette while cleverly integrating a pair of discreet wheels for ease of movement—an innovative and practical detail characteristic of Italian design from this period.
With their futuristic forms, generous proportions, and playful yet considered construction, these chairs capture the optimism and avant-garde spirit of 1970s Italian Space Age design, combining sculptural presence with everyday functionality.
